4 Tips to Keep in Mind While Designing Your Home Office 4 Tips to Keep in Mind While Designing Your Home Office

When it comes to designing your home office, several things must be considered, from privacy to organization to lighting to ... well, the list goes on and on.

It can be so very exciting to design and purchase items for your home office, so here are 4 important aspects that should be consider when planning for your office, so that once you’re moved in, you will feel the comfort and productivity you need.

Keep it Private

You have to separate your workplace from the rest of the house, keeping away from everything that is going on in the rest of your house. You need to choose a space and make it your own. Do not sacrifice your comfort for a room that your family barely ever uses. Instead, take that quiet part of the house and turn it into your home office. Since you are going to be working long hours in this room, you deserve more than a small space where everyone keeps interrupting.

Organization

Now that you have decided that you will work from a proper room instead of getting cramped in a small closet, the next important step is to organize that space. If the room already has shelves, your task for organizing the room has already become much easier. Sort out your files and books and organize them along the shelves. For your files, label the shelves and organize them alphabetically. Organize books by authors or color code them, this will give you something nice to look at when you get tired of looking at your desk computer.

Furniture

Invest in furniture that goes with your walls and office space. Since your walls and shelves might already be painted, you can match the desk and chair that you will buy with these walls. If you have walls that are lighter, go for darker furniture. Darker shades of brown look amazing with beige or cream-colored walls. Always go for lighter colors if your office space is already cramped, this makes your home office look more spacious. Purchase a desk that will hold all of your equipment and will keep it organized. Get containers and racks that will further organize all the small things in the room such as pens, pencils, sticky notes etc.

Invest in a comfortable chair. It is very important that you stay comfortable and keep your body relaxed. Having back pains and continuously rubbing your neck to get rid of neck cramps will only decrease your productivity levels.

Get a rug to bring the entire room together. While deciding the décor of a place, it is easy to forget the floor, whereas the floor is the place most people notice first when walking into a room. Add a carpet or rug that will compliment both your walls and furniture and will make the room look put together and sophisticated, just like the work you do.

Lighting

Lastly, the lights in your home office will affect your work. Most people work best in daylight. Recently, architects and builders alike, have focused on homes that will get the most of sunlight. This is because science has proven that people are most productive in daylight. Another factor to consider is the usage of calmer lights such as greens, blues, and violets. This gives a calming effect to your workplace and will relax your mind so it works better.
